BLACK DINING TABLE
This dining table captures simplicity and versatility. It consists of six individual components that can be taken apart completely, making it very practical. The dimensions can easily be changed and there is endless choice for the combination of metal and wood. In this version, I chose to create an all black dining table. The distinctive black look of the top is achieved by using an old Japanese technique called Shou Sugi Ban. It is a time consuming finish where the wood is carefully scorched, copper brushed and finally oiled. Shou Sugi Ban is said to preserve the wood against rot and insects, thus most importantly it enhances the grain and beauty of the wood, giving the surface an incredibly tactile feel.
Contrast lays at the heart of the design. Stringent lines versus natural curves. The coldness of the metal versus the warmth of the wood. Creating a clean and timeless dining table that can elevate any dining space.
Striking a balance between form and function is paramount. I have focused on creating functionality by adding somewhere to rest your feet under the table and ensuring that the space between the planks are small enough so that, for example, a wine glass won’t fall over.
Comfortably seats 6 and 8 for a party.
